Birmingham Royal Ballet presents a sparkling triple bill that highlights the diversity of classical ballet with live music from the acclaimed Royal Ballet Sinfonia.
From traditional English whimsy, to the intensity of the tango and a burst of comic frivolity, audiences will experience the versatility of the company’s world-class dancers across a range of different styles.
In Kenneth MacMillan’s Solitaire, a beautifully English ballet, we inhabit a lone girls imagination as she dreams up playmates for herself. Set to composer Malcolm Arnold’s rip-roaring English Dances, it features stunning period design.
In contrast, Hans van Manen’s 5 Tangos translates Astor Piazzollas fiery and passionate music into powerful Latin-inspired ballet.
Finally, in Pineapple Poll, a gaggle of girls fall in love with the dashing captain of HMS Hot Cross Bun, so dress up as sailors and sneak aboard. Despite the ensuing chaos, it all ends well in this thoroughly ‘Gilbert and Sullivan’ affair!
